Roy Dennis Hyland

Roy Dennis Hyland, of Sawyer, Okla., passed away Aug. 28, 2026, at the age of 78.

Roy Dennis Hyland was born on Oct. 15, 1947 in Hugo, Okla., the son of John “Skates” Martin Hyland and Margaret Pauline (Allison) Hyland. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings: Jack Hyland, Frank Hyland, Albion “Lennie” Hyland, and Velma Sue George.

Roy grew up in Fort Towson, Okla., and was a graduate of Fort Towson High School. He proudly joined the United States Navy at the age of 21 and served his country for a number of years. After his honorable discharge, he settled in Dallas, Texas, where he was a truck driver. Roy enjoyed the open road; seeing new places and meeting new people along the way. In his younger years, he enjoyed going dancing and playing pool. Later, he returned to Choctaw County, Okla., where he got to enjoy the outdoors. Roy loved to go hunting, camping and fishing at the dam. He also enjoyed watching old westerns and Walker Texas Ranger. Roy is survived by his wife, Cindy Smith of the home; son, Nick Rosenthal; daughters: Misty Connelly and Wendy Hyland; three grandchildren, along with a host of friends and family.
