Roy “Sarge” Richburg
Roy “Sarge” Richburg, known to many simply as Sarge, passed away on July 3, 2026 in Bonham, Texas, at the age of 93. He was born on March 31, 1933, in Holly Creek, Okla., and lived a life marked by courage, and selflessness. Roy Lee joined the United States Marines at the age of 19 and began a distinguished military career that reflected his deep sense of duty and commitment to his country. He served in Korea in 1952 and later completed two tours in Vietnam. Through more than 20 years of service, he earned the respect of his fellow Marines and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant before retiring. His years in uniform were a defining part of his life, and he carried the discipline, resilience, and honor of his military service with him always.
After his retirement from the Marines, Sarge continued to work as a heavy equipment operator, both in the military and later as a civilian. He was known for his skill, dependability, and practical knowledge, and he took pride in doing hard work well.
Sarge also enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved to fish, almost as much as he loved eating them, and he found joy in spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed “junking” around the counties in search of antiques, always on the lookout for something interesting, useful, or full of history.
He is survived by his son, Michael Richburg; two grandchildren; one great-grandson and his sister, Freda Baudoin. Sarge was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Flossie Richburg, and by his sister, Reba Jo.
Graveside services with full Military Rites were held on Tuesday, July 7, 2027 in the Restland Cemetery in Boswell, under the direction of Prater- Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.
