Sammy Joe Drinkard

Graveside services for Sammy Joe Drinkard, of Hugo, Okla., were held Sept. 21, 2026 at Soper Cemetery.

Sammy Joe Drinkard passed on from this life on Sept. 17, 2026 in Plano, Texas, at the age of 84, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Sept. 12, 1942 in the Messer, Okla., bottoms, the son of Arvie Drinkard and Ora Velma Braddy. Sam was preceded in death by his parents.

Sam spent most of his life in Choctaw County. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves for 21 years until his honorable discharge. Sam also retired from Campbell Soup in Paris, Texas, where he worked for many years and he made many lifelong friends during his time there. He loved to ride his horses and mules and was an avid hunter. Sam’s family was the most important thing in his life and he was proud of all of their accomplishments. Sam is survived by his loving family; son, Sammy “Bubba” Drinkard and wife; a granddaughter; sisters: Linda “Sudie” Ball and Darlene “Sissy” Hurtt and husband, along with many other family friends and loved ones. Anthony Lewis officiated the service, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
