Funeral services for Vernon Dewane Thomas, of Moyers, Okla., were held March 15, 2026 at Rocky Point Cemetery. Vernon passed away March 11, 2026, at the age of 81.

Vernon Dewane Thomas was born on Feb. 6, 1945 in Antlers, Okla., the son of Virgil Albert Thomas and Yolander Grelena (Wall) Northrip. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Ann Thomas; infant brother, Billy Gene Thomas; sister, Patty Ruth (Thomas) Babcock and a niece.

Vernon was a lifelong resident of Pushmataha County. He married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Hacker, on July 14, 1966 in Atoka and they made their home in Moyers. Vernon got drafted into the military in 1966 and proudly served his country in the United Stated Army.

After his time in the military, he worked construction and later found his true calling, ranching. He was a true cattle rancher and horseman, and he was deeply respected within the ranching community for his knowledge and experience. Vernon spent countless hours in the saddle and riding side-by-sides across the pastures tending to his livestock. His love for the outdoors didn’t stop there. Vernon loved fishing and hunting, especially hog hunting and trapping. He knew the land like the back of his hand and his love for it was felt by all who knew him. Vernon is survived by his four sons: Dewane Thomas and spouse, Randy Thomas and spouse, Jody Thomas, Bradley Thomas and spouse; two bonus sons; a daughter-in-law; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and a host of other family, many friends and loved ones.

Jonathan Hooker officiated the service, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
