Funeral services for Virginia Ann “Jean” Hintze, of Hugo, Okla., were held at 2 p.m. July 25, 2023 at Miller & Miller Funeral Home Chapel. Virginia passed away July 21, 2023, at the age of 88.

Virginia Ann “Jean” Hintze was born in Logansport, Ind., on Aug. 20, 1934, the daughter of Walter Gerlat and Helen Gordon Gerlat. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard C. Hintze; daughter, Gail Hintze Pavelka; sister, Mildred Small and a brother-in-law.

Jean married the love of her life, Howard C. Hintze in September 1960, in Chicago, Ill. They moved to Hugo, Okla., in 1969 and put down roots in the area to raise their family. Jean worked as a baker at McCuistion Regional Medical Center in Paris, Texas, from 1979 until her retirement. She had a passion for reading and was known for telling it like it is and you always knew where you stood with her. Jean loved for people to come visit her but when she was ready for you to leave, she would say “turn the light off on the way out.” Jean was truly a Yankee through and through. Her nickname was “Mean Jean,” but only Dr. Mike could get away with calling her that. She loved Dr. Mike and her Baptist Village family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Jean is survived by her daughters: Lori Henry and husband of Hugo and Karen Cochran of Hugo; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of friends, family and loved ones.

Interment followed the service at Springs Chapel with David Kautt officiating, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
