HUGO — A Hugo High School teenager has been charged with first degree murder in connection with the shooting of Noah Shoemake, 19 of Antlers, in what investigators believed to have been “an assassination-style shooting” in a drug deal gone bad.

CHOCTAW COUNTY –– Two people were injured in a collision that occurred Friday evening at the intersection of U.S. Hwy.

Choctaw County EMS uses multiple ambulances to function properly and assist people countywide. Maintaining such a fleet adequately can be costly, but failing to do so could potentially cost people their lives.

The Hugo Board of Education met in regular session on Feb. 8. The board approved a new school calendar for 2021-2022 recommended by a committee made up of teachers and parents. A decision by the Oklahoma State Board of Education on Jan. 28, 2021 will allow four-day school weeks to continue for another year if local boards choose to do so. The committee included voices in support of a return to a five-day week. However, the majority favored the four-day option as a way to keep teachers who drive long distances to Hugo and to remain competitive in hiring new teachers in the area due to the fact that the other schools in our immediate area will also continue with their four-day weeks.

Funeral services for Debbie Azlin, of Hugo, Okla., were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021 at Miller & Miller Funeral Home Chapel. Debbie passed away Jan. 26, 2021, at the age of 73.

Deborah Louise Azlin was born Jan. 5, 1948 in Fort Towson, Okla., the daughter of Edgar Burkham and Laura (Taylor) Burkham. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Joe B. Burkham and her sister, Lawan Scott.
