Volunteers tackle beautification

FOR RELEASE: The Hugo Area Chamber of Commerce’s Beautification Committee hosted its bi-annual downtown beautification day Thursday. The group, led by committee chair Jay Hinds, planted flowers and trees and trimmed shrubs along Broadway and Jackson Streets, as well as picking up trash at Lions Park.
Kiamichi Technology Center’s Diesel Technology Program (with instructor Homer Chapman), Auto Collision Technology Program (with instructor Dustin Teague), Heavy Equipment Operator Program (with instructor Tanner Lester), and the Pre-Engineering Program (with instructors Steve Hardy and Roger Goza) assist with the Chamber’s beautification day.

Hugo teen airlifted after wreck

CHOCTAW COUNTY –– A Hugo teen was airlifted to a Texas hospital last Thursday afternoon, after a single-vehicle wreck approximately one mile west of Sawyer on US Hwy. 70.

Safe Digging month

April is National Safe Digging Month. Oklahoma Corporation Commission Chairman Dana Murphy is reminding Oklahomans that any outdoor digging project this spring should start with a phone call.
City Body Wrecker Service hosted a Back the Blue Crawfish Boil Saturday, April 9, to show its appreciation for local law enforcement and emergency services. The boil started at 2 p.m. and lasted until they ran out of crawfish, with all emergency services groups eating free.

We’ve officially completed the bulk of committee work for this session after the April 14 deadline to hear measures that originated in the House in our Senate committees, and vice versa, the House completed their work on the bills we have approved. The Joint Committee on Appropriations and Budget will continue to meet throughout the rest of session to vote on budget bills as we work to finalize the Fiscal Year 2023 budget.
