New laws go into effect in Oklahoma

Oklahoma residents will be governed by as many as 350 new laws that have gone into place since July 1. The new laws range from capping prices on insulin sold in the state to state vehicle titles and taxes.

Former Energy Secretary says Biden’s use of SPR is ‘illegal’

The Biden administration’s announcement that it will release 180 million barrels of crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve over six months is unlawful and harms our national security. After the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo, Congress passed the 1975 Energy Policy and Conservation Act, creating the SPR to provide reserve supplies of crude oil to counter “severe energy supply disruptions.” Concerns regarding the potential for the federal government to manipulate normal market functions prompted Congress to limit the circumstances when SPR crude oil could be released.

ON SATURDAY, JUNE 18, 2022, the Hugo community celebrated its 15th Annual Juneteenth Celebration. Events included a parade, followed by celebration at Cora Lee Roe Park. The Juneteenth committee honored retired teachers Pat and Barbara McGee (left), and two of our oldest members in the community, Mrs. Helen Scroggins (100 yrs.) and Mr. J.C. Lennox (99 yrs). The first place winners of the parade were Richard Thomas (first place for ATV), and Amanda Perry (first place for Decorated Vehicle).The Juneteenth committee (pictured above from left to right) includes: Shon Gage, Katrina Bills, Kiepher Lester, Allan Webster, Vernell Grant, Clinton Crawley, Lorenzo Black, Eddie Walton, Keith Robertson and Di’Mehlia Adamson.

Last week the United States Supreme Court issued its decision in Oklahoma v. Castro-Huerta. This decision holds that the State of Oklahoma has concurrent jurisdiction with the federal government to prosecute non- Indians who commit crimes against Indian victims within Indian Country.
