Attorney General Gentner Drummond is pushing back against California’s strict hog-housing regulations that would adversely impact Oklahoma’s pork producers. In 2018, California passed Proposition 12, a law requiring out-of-state pork producers to comply with strict farming regulations if they want to sell their pork products.

Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy applauded federal and local law enforcement in Southern Oklahoma for enforcing laws against illegal possession and transportation of fighting roosters for cockfighting. The interdiction, resulting in the arrest two Texas men – with one apprehension in in Atoka County and the other in Murray County on the Chickasaw National Recreation Area –– also resulted in the seizure of 10 fighting roosters. Animal Wellness Action is supporting authorities in helping find temporary sanctuaries for the animals.

Hugo Superintendent of Schools Brandy Blalock issued a public statement Friday saying the district had placed five employees of the Hugo School district on administrative leave following allegations of misconduct.
