Local team competes at National 4-H Forestry Invitational

Oklahoma was among 12 states that competed in the 44th National 4-H Forestry Invitational from Sunday, July 20 through Wednesday, July 23. Teams from Arkansas, Mississippi and Virginia placed first, second, and third, respectively. Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina and Utah, also competed in this year’s Invitational.

OKLAHOMA CITY —After becoming the youngest State Representative in Oklahoma history in 1953, the guy who always wore the white hat, George Nigh, passed away last week at the age of 98 years. Nigh was born in McAlester on June 9, 1927 to Wilber and Irene Nigh, and he still holds the record for time served in the Governor’s office in Oklahoma, having served four times as Governor.

HUGO — Oklahoma State Senator David Bullard spoke at a Town Hall meeting at the Reynolds Library in Hugo Tuesday, July 29, bringing a dozen attendies up-to-date on this year’s legislative session which he called “a session of surprises.” Bullard told the group his next term in the Oklahoma Senate would be his last due to term limits. “After that?” he questioned. “I’m going to wait and see what the Good Lord and my wife have in store for me… maybe something back in the education field.”
