I came away from last Thursday’s Town Hall meeting in Boswell with mixed feelings. The meeting opened up with area citizens and even aspiring candidates for public office voicing their desire to attract better jobs to the area so our sharpest and brightest young citizens could choose to remain near their homes and raise families here with good paying jobs and benefits.

Education bill passage draws praise from State Superintendent

STATE CAPITOL — Senate Bill 1788 by Sen. Adam Pugh and House Speaker Kyle Hilbert was signed by the Governor Kevin Stitt Monday at a special ceremony held at John Rex Elementary. In attendance was State Superintendent Lindel Fields, who expressed strong support for the bipartisan legislation.

HUGO — The Hugo Lady Buffaloes hosted the Wright City Lady Jax Monday and were not able to contain the powerhitting team. Wright City plated 13 runs on 13 hits, while the Lady Buffaloes got two runs across the plate on five hits.

Kingston drops Buffaloes, 13-1

HUGO — The Hugo Buffaloes were unable to string enough hits together Monday afternoon at Shull-Bywaters Park to challenge the visiting Kingston Redskins. Kingston plated 13 runs on 11 hits while making no errors in the field.

OMRF secures $3 million to study meth addiction

The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation has received a $3 million federal grant to investigate how methamphetamine triggers a vicious cycle of addiction in the brain. By the end of the five-year National Institutes of Health grant, OMRF’s Mike Beckstead, Ph.D., hopes to make discoveries about addiction that will apply not just to meth but also to other drugs.
