Funeral services for Alice Wheeler, of Hugo, Okla., were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Miller & Miller Funeral Chapel.

Alice Virginia Azalea Wheeler passed away on April 28, 2023, in Hugo, Okla., at the age of 93. Alice was born on May 29, 1929, in Hugo, to Liga Gilbert Burton and Della May Babcock-Burton. She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Dewey W. Wheeler; sisters: Oleta Jones and Vera McClure; and daughter, Barbara Allen Alice grew up in the Messer area where she met and fell in love with her childhood sweetheart, Dewey Wheeler. They married on Feb. 25, 1946 in Paris, Texas. Together they had two sons and a daughter. They spent their early years in the Hugo area and West Texas before settling down in Rattan, Okla. Alice was a devoted daughter, sister, wife and mother. She loved her family and enjoyed taking care of them. Everyone loved gathering at her home to enjoy home cooked meals and the best sweet tea. She enjoyed crocheting, puzzle books, reading and tending to her rose bushes. However, she is best known in her role as “Nana.” She made a huge impact on all her grandchildren. She was never too busy to play games, watch movies and teach them about Jesus. Above all else, Alice loved the Lord and read her Bible often. She will be so deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Alice is survived by her loving family; sons: Jerry Wheeler and Donny Wheeler; a son-in-law; sister, Lavella Robison; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of other friends, family, and loved ones.

Interment followed the service at Springs Chapel Cemetery with Jimmy McClure officiating, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
