Funeral services for Bobby Dameron, of Hugo, Okla., were held at 10 a.m. March 7, 2024 at Miller & Miller Funeral Home Chapel. Bobby passed away March 3, 2024, at the age of 79.

Bobby Dameron was born on Sept. 22, 1944 in Poteau, Okla., the son of Wesley Dameron and Bessie Mahurin (White) Dameron. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vivian “Jan” (Billy) Dameron; brother, Ronald Dameron and sister, Wanda Clift.

Bobby grew up in Poteau and graduated from Poteau High School in 1963. He married his loving wife, Vivian “Jan” Billy on Sept. 26, 1964 in Poteau. Bobby and Jan later moved to Hugo to follow his job with Roberts Trucking Company. Bobby coached boxing in Hugo and Colorado Springs and coached several Golden Glove Boxing Champions. He was even asked to coach South Korea’s Olympic Boxing Team but declined. Bobby coached summer league baseball for several years –– he was truly an inspiration for many youths to set high goals. Bobby enjoyed raising racehorses, two of them, “She’s a Royal” and “He’s a She,” won several large races at tracks across the country. He enjoyed working with his hands building things, there was nothing he could not build. Bobby was an avid outdoorsman and he loved to hunt and fish at his Cloudy Camp on Little River. But most of all, Bobby loved his family and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones. Bobby is survived by his daughters: Angela Watts and husband of Hugo and Crystal West and husband of Hugo; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, James Dameron and sister, Diann Wilson, along with a host of other family, friends and loved ones.

Interment followed the service at Springs Chapel Cemetery with David Cahill officiating, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
