Funeral services for James Boykin, Sr. were held at 2 p.m. April 24, 2021 at Miller & Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Hugo.

On April 18, 2021 at 2:35 a.m., James Allen “RADAR” Boykin, Sr., 66, of Conroe, Texas, passed from a rare form of cancer called Germ Cell Tumor following a diagnosis two weeks prior.

James served as Military Police in the 45th Infantry for 15 years. For more than 40 years, he worked off-and-on as a cross-country trucker where he was well-known, loved and quite the jokester. He spent 21 of those years driving team with his wife, Donna, “Lady Luck” as she’s known out on the road.

When not out on the road, James enjoyed playing his video games –– especially “Call of Duty.” He loved to attend the trucking shows where he was part of a group called the “Lelandettes,” where he would dress up in a purple wig and cowboy hat, inflatable lady costume complete, with a thong bikini to raise money for charity! When he was younger, he enjoyed riding bulls and horses, and spent many days fishing and hunting with his cousin, “Junior.”

James was a God-loving man. He was kind, honest, hardworking, funny, and a kid-at-heart. James was always smiling and telling jokes.

A human life is a collection of stories. One of James’ biggest accomplishments was being a father, he became a proud daddy when he selflessly chose to adopt his four children: Deloris, Billy, Shella and Christina in 1986 when he married Bonnie with whom he maintained a friendship, making family gatherings enjoyable. He then went on to have James Jr., but that wasn’t enough, so he gained four more step-children: Craig, Nicole, Dawniel and Tiesa when he married Donna. His children called their dad a big’ol softie! He was very protective, always there for them through their ups and downs, and most importantly he taught them to trust.

James was a real-life GPS navigator which comes in handy when you are a trucker. His children recall getting lost and calling their dad to ask for help: He could tell you exactly how to get where you needed to be based on your location description, this was believed to be his secret talent.

James is survived by his wife, Donna L. Williams Boykin; his children: Deloris Boykin of Del City, Billy Boykin of OKC, Shella Bohuslavicky of Mustang, Christina Boykin of Yukon, James Boykin, Jr. of OKC; his step-children: Craig Sanders of Tulsa, Nicole Sanders of Broken Arrow, Dawniel Stewart of La Jolla, Calif., and Tiesa Carlock of Seminole. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his fur babies.

Interment will be scheduled at a later date at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Haston Boykin, Jr. officiated the service, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
