Our precious mother, Laura Mae (Taylor) Cheek, of Boswell, Okla., passed away on March 30, 2023 surrounded by her family, at the age of 97. Laura was born on Nov. 9, 1925 to Harvey and Irene Taylor of Boswell, Okla. She married the love of her life, Hubert Eugene Cheek on April 5, 1943 and they shared their life together for 77 years.

Laura enjoyed quilting, her beautiful flower garden, canning her famous dill pickles, hunting and fishing, and making a warm and inviting home for her family and friends. She loved teaching the childrens’ church at her local church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Eugene Cheek; her sons: Harvey Eugene Cheek and Benjamin William Cheek; her granddaughters: Cristy Martin and Amy Williamson; and her grandsons: Dwain Martin and Michael Todd Cheek.

Her surviving family members are, the Rev. Johnny Cheek and Linda Cheek of Boswell, David and Emma Higginbottom of Boswell, Robert and Gail Cheek of Broken Bow, Okla., the Rev. Gerald Vickers and Carol Vickers of Boswell, Jimmy and Mary Nolan of Boswell, and Dale and Revice Fisher of Idabel, Okla.; her grandchildren: Scott Cheek, Shannon Cheek, Jennifer Schreckhise, Kyle Vickers, Lauren Vickers, David Cahill, Ben Cahill, Sonya Herbst, Kristen Shanks, Joey Knesek, Shane Cheek and 45 precious great-grandchildren and 15 adorable great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and a host of friends. She created precious memories of joy and laughter for everyone who knew her. She taught us courage, she made us strong, encouraging us every day “you can do this.” Best of all she taught us “God is our priority and all good things come from God.” She is “amazing” and death cannot take her from us… She gave her life to us… We adore her!

“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” Proverbs 31:25.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2023 at Apostolic Tabernacle, 2079 E. 2050 Road, Hugo, with the Rev. Gerald Vickers officiating. Burial was at Restland Cemetery, Boswell.
