Fort Towson Historic Site to host free nature walk on May 25

The Fort Towson Historic Site will host a nature walk with Kara Richardson, a wildcrafter from Broken Bow, on Saturday, May 25, from 9-11 a.m. Richardson draws on her experiences as a southeast Oklahoma native to advocate for natural resources education and the perpetuation of wild herbs and medicinal plants. Her methods focus on proper plant identification, range and historical uses.

• Southeast Oklahoma Library System launches 2024 Summer Reading Program The Southeast Oklahoma Library System (SEOLS) is thrilled to announce the theme of its highly anticipated 2024 summer reading program, “Adventure Begins at Your Library,” set to run from May 20 to July 1 across all SEOLS locations. Squirrel season opened May 15

OKLAHOMA CITY – Southeast Oklahoma squirrel hunters were headed for the woods last week as the state’s annual squirrel season opened May 15 until the end of the year. Oklahoma has two species of squirrels that are legal to hunt: the eastern fox squirrel and the eastern gray squirrel, according to Oklahoma Wildlife officials.
