Kacyn Beard, a 2022 graduate of Hugo High School, just returned from a trip to Cheer Hawaii. It was a long road to Hawaii for Beard, who was originally nominated for the exclusive cheer camp in 2021, but couldn’t attend due to COVID-19.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) is reporting the first human case, and death in 2022, caused by West Nile Virus (WNV) in a Central Oklahoma resident. The patient was hospitalized before passing away.

The Fort Towson 4-H Forestry junior and senior teams won top honors in the State Forestry Judging contest held at Robber’s Cave, north of Wilburton. 4-H members had to take a test over general forestry knowledge, identify insects, participate in compass and pacing, identify trees and tell how they are used in Oklahoma, and measure saw logs.
