OKLAHOMA CITY –– Oklahoma Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired and friends will celebrate Deaf-Blind Awareness week, June 26 - July 2, in honor of Oklahomans who are deafblind and world-famous author, educator, lecturer and disability advocate Helen Keller.

Oftentimes the most important words after a disaster are those you didn’t have to use such as death/injuries, starting over, rebuilding, and others. That’s where the protection of Oklahoma’s network of 2,107 flood control dams and voluntary conservation practices once again shined.

Happy Birthday to Linda Knight (June 18) and Thomas Hood (June 21)! First Baptist Church in Grant, 710 Everidge, will be holding a Revival, featuring Andy and Renie Bowman of Broken Arrow, beginning Sunday, June 26 at 11 a.m. It will be held June 27-29 at 7 p.m.

Partly cloudy and hot pretty much covers it all the way through the weekend with high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90s and the heat index hitting 100 on most days. We don’t see any major weather changes in the next two weeks as the heat will continue. Summer officially arrives next Tuesday on June 21

IRIS GARDEN CLUB Yard of the Month was Don and Gail Hilliard at 1103 E. Kirk. The beautiful yard has many beautiful flowers, large trees and a lovely patio area. Pictured with the Hillyards are Garden club members.

THE HUGO AREA Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for Al Gilberti, a new resident to Hugo who’s joined the chamber as “The Senior that Sings.” Gilberti moved to Hugo from the Dallas area, where he sang in a variety of venues. He’s already booked multiple gigs in his new town, performing at the Red Star during rodeo weekend and booking a gig at El Kanelo.
