Staying active and independent for life class coming to Hugo

The Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative (OHAI) and the Choctaw County Public Library are collaborating to provide the Staying Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) program. The classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. beginning May 17 through Aug. 4, 2022 at the Choctaw County Public Library located at 703 E. Jackson St. in Hugo.

Certified Healthy awardees announced

The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) announced awardees for Certified Healthy Oklahoma, a public health initiative launched in 2003 to recognize businesses and organizations that implement best practices and policies that support improved health and wellness.

National Land, Range Judging Contest winners announced

Nearly 850 4-H and FFA students and more than 250 coaches from 34 states gathered in Oklahoma for the 69th National Land and Range Judging Contest, May 5, 2022. After two days of practice at sites in the Oklahoma City area, the contest was held near El Reno, Oklahoma at the Cheyenne Arapaho Tribal Headquarters.

Learn about herb gardening at Fort Towson Historic Site

You are invited to learn about growing nutritional and tasty herbs at the Fort Towson Historic Site on Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 1-3 p.m. Master Gardener Jean Maniger will share her expertise on producing high yields of herbs. Site staff will be on hand to answer questions about the three types of gardens that were grown when the fort was active from 1824-1854, to provide balance to a frontier diet of salted meats, beans, and flour.
