Trail of Tears memorial walk coming April 30

TVSHKA HOMMA, Okla. –– The Trail of Tears Memorial Walk will return to Tvshka Homma in 2022. Members of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) and all others wanting to honor and remember those tribal ancestors who made the original Trail of Tears journey in the 1830s are invited to join in. Gates will open on the Living Village of the historic capitol grounds at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 30.

HUGO –– On Saturday afternoon, a small crowd gathered on the side of Highway 271 for a ceremony dedicating a portion of the highway to a fallen Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper. The section of the highway runs from the outer limits of Hugo to Grant, and it now bears the name Trooper J.C.

The following recreation areas at Hugo Lake are fully open for the 2022 recreation season: Kiamichi Park, Virgil Point, Wilson Point, Sawyer Bluff, Bridgeview, Overlook, Salt Creek, Frazier Creek, Rattan Landing and Mahaffey Point.

Arbor Day celebrations continue to recognize the important role trees play in our environment and more recently their impact on our mental and emotional well-being.
