Stephens family pays homage to an old friend and to the Rickman Spanish Mustangs

HUGO — A celebration luncheon to honor longtime friend and family member Bob Steele was held at Roma’s Restaurant in Hugo, Okla., Tuesday, June 22, to remember his 86th birthday. Rich Stephens of Tulsa organized the luncheon to coincide with honoring a local couple for their lifetime of work preserving Oklahoma’s Heritage Horses — the Spanish Mustang.

Choctaw tribal member overcomes COVID-19 after 221 days hospitalized

Choctaw Nation Health Services Authority (CNHSA) discharged a special patient last week. Doyle Springs spent 221 days in a healthcare facility due to COVID-19. A combination of the Choctaw Nation Health Care Center and a rehabilitation facility in Oklahoma City, 42 of those days were on a ventilator. He fought back to regain his health and strength.

Fort Towson 4-H keeps busy

The Fort Towson 4-H members have been busy with different activities in their community. The first was helping with the Walking Tour at the Fort Towson Cemetery. The members helped walking groups around the cemetery, listening to storytellers talk about settlers of the Doaksville and early Fort Towson era.

Applications for Heritage Livestock microgrants program now open

In 2020, The Livestock Conservancy awarded more than $22,000 to farmers, ranchers, and shepherds raising endangered breeds of livestock and poultry across the country. Now in its fourth year, the Microgrants Program continues to put funding into the hands of our most important conservation partners – the people doing the hard work day after day to steward these genetic treasures for the security of tomorrow’s food and fiber systems.
