Invasive zebra mussels have been detected for the first time in Dave Boyer Lake northeast of Walters in Cotton County, according to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. The mussels were confirmed by ODWC fisheries biologists after recent sampling efforts showed the presence of zebra mussel veligers, or offspring.

The Boswell and Valliant Independent School Districts have proposed Special School Bond Elections in an effort to raise funds for the purchase of busses, transportation equipment, repairs and other miscellaneous school equipment. Boswell is offering two bond propositions for a combined value of $335,000 and Valliant has a single bond proposition for $420,000. Only voters who live within the Boswell and Valliant School Districts are eligible to vote in this election. This will limit Choctaw County voters to only those who are registered and vote in Boswell Precinct 120101 and vote in the Boswell School auditorium, voters who live in the Boswell School District and also vote at the Goodland Academy Precinct number 120208 and voters who live in Bryan County in the Boswell School District and vote in Bennington.
