Fort Towson Historic Site will have its 200th celebration on Saturday, May 18, beginning at 10 a.m. with events all day long. The ceremony will recognize the contribution of the soldiers who manned Fort Towson when it was active, all while celebrating the tremendous contributions of the Choctaw and Chickasaw people. They will also host “History Day Camp” for kids ages 9 to 12 from Tuesday, May 28, through Thursday, May 30.

Hugo, and Oklahoma Southeast, played host to the 36th annual Lieutenant Governor’s Turkey Hunt last week. According to Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell, this event is a way to show off Oklahoma to potential new businesses, giving them an opportunity to see what the state has to offer. “Oklahoma is ranked No. 9 in the country for net migration growth,” Pinnell said. “We have to invest in ourselves –– this is the best place to live, work and raise a family.

HUGO — Hugo and Choctaw County were fortunate over the weekend, dodging 25 tornadoes confirmed by the National Weather Service that ripped their way across Oklahoma over the weekend. Sulphur and Marietta appeared to be among the hardest hit, with several fatalities reported.

Senate approves measure to protect producers’ personal information

OKLAHOMA CITY –– Sen. Warren Hamilton, R-McCurtain, received approval from the full Senate for House Bill 2975 recently. The measure allows homemade food product producers to obtain a permit from the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF), which will protect their privacy by reducing the amount of personal information they are required to include on their product labels.
