While many families are caring for their loved ones at home, finding ways to stay engaged and active indoors during the cold winter months can be challenging for many Americans, but it can be particularly challenging for the millions of people living with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 70,000 individuals are living with Alzheimer’s in Oklahoma.

Choctaw Nation partners with OSU, CDC to combat tickborne disease

DURANT –– The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma has partnered with Oklahoma State University (OSU) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to launch tickborne disease surveillance across the Choctaw Nation Reservation. Tick samples from each of 10 counties will be analyzed to identify community hotspots at risk for tickborne disease, including Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF), a tickborne illness that has increased across the reservation in recent years.

According to Hugo City Manager Leah Thomas, due to the watermain break occurring on Jan. 20, 2024, the Hugo public water system is currently experiencing very low, or in some cases, zero water pressure to the drinking water supplied by the Hugo water system. As a result, upon repair, initial use may cause stirring of sediments in your water.
