June is National Men’s Health Month, an ideal time to pause and reevaluate your health or have important conversations with loved ones. While men’s health matters all year long, making an intentional effort to reevaluate habits can save or prolong a person’s life.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health WIC Program is pleased to announce a temporary increase to the Cash Value Benefit (CVB) and a permanent addition of canned fruits and vegetables to the program’s approved food list.

The Fort Towson 4-H Forestry Judging junior and senior teams won top honors in the State Forestry Contest, held at Robbers Cave, north of Wilburton. 4-H members had to take a test over general forestry knowledge, identify insects and diseased, participate in com pass and pacing, identify trees and tell how they are used in Oklahoma, and measure saw logs.

HUGO –– Last month the Choctaw Nation awarded the city of Hugo $29,300, Boswell $11,900 and Choctaw County $24,700 from the Choctaw Community Partner Fund to continue to help strengthen and develop the local area.

The Iris Garden Club of Hugo met on May 24 for their last meeting before adjourning for the summer. The group convened on the patio at the home of Harolynn Wofford.

Hugo Veteran R.D. Payne was recently recognized by the Choctaw Nation as Veteran of the Month. Payne served in the U.S. Army Reserve from Nov. 13, 1955 to Oct. 31, 1963. His citation, signed by Choctaw Chief Gary Batton and Asst. Chief Jack Austin, Jr., was presented by Tribal Representative Zazbet Stotts (left).
