Fort Towson 4-H wins State Forestry contests

The Fort Towson 4-H Forestry Judging junior and senior teams won top honors in the State Forestry Contest, held at Robbers Cave, north of Wilburton. 4-H members had to take a test over general forestry knowledge, identify insects and diseased, participate in com pass and pacing, identify trees and tell how they are used in Oklahoma, and measure saw logs.

Veteran of the Month...

Hugo Veteran R.D. Payne was recently recognized by the Choctaw Nation as Veteran of the Month. Payne served in the U.S. Army Reserve from Nov. 13, 1955 to Oct. 31, 1963. His citation, signed by Choctaw Chief Gary Batton and Asst. Chief Jack Austin, Jr., was presented by Tribal Representative Zazbet Stotts (left).
