Albert B. Meyer, Jr., a cherished husband, father, brother and grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025, at the age of 78, in his hometown of Hugo, Okla. Born on Sept. 6, 1946 in Hugo, Albert lived a life marked by kindness, dedication and a love for his community. Albert was a man of deep faith and unwavering values. He graduated from Hugo High School and worked in Hugo as a barber for 11 years before joining the Hugo Fire Department. He later moved to Muskogee and spent 32 years there working track rail maintenance for the Frisco Railroad. It was upon his return to Hugo that he met the love of his life, Ruth Adams. The couple united in marriage on Jan. 24, 2012 in Dallas, Texas, and together they created a home filled with laughter and love.

Albert’s professional life was as a dedicated driver for the Little Dixie Community Action Agency, a role that allowed him to serve his community in a meaningful way. His love for NASCAR was only rivaled by his passion for fishing, which he enjoyed in his spare time. Albert’s commitment to his faith was evident to all who knew him, as he lived his life as a devout Christian.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Meyer of the home; his sons: Ronnie Meyer and wife, Missy of Idabel, Okla., and Albert Meyer II of Muskogee, Okla.; step-son, Dan and Cindy Adams of Hugo; step-daughters: Leah Owen of Paris, Texas, Tina Rich and husband, Barry of McKinney, Texas; his treasured granddaughter: Rachel Meyer of Idabel, and his three local grandsons: Case Adams, Ledger Adams and Jay Armstrong; as well as several additional grandchildren; his brother, Jimmy Maxey of North Carolina; and his sister, Terri DeLaSantos of Amarillo, Texas. Albert’s life was enriched by the presence of his family, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Albert was raised by his grandparents, Cecil and Felicitas Elizondo, Sr., who instilled in him the values of hard work and compassion that he carried throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; step-son-in-law, Ron Owen; sister-inlaw, Charlene Maxey; and one sister, Judy Johnson.

Those who knew Albert would describe him as friendly, interesting and thoughtful. He had the rare ability to make everyone he met feel like the most important person in the room. His conversations were never dull, and his thoughtful nature meant he always had time to lend an ear or a helping hand.

Albert’s legacy is one of love, service and an unwavering commitment to his family and faith. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched. Albert B. Meyer, Jr.’s life was a testament to the power of kindness and the enduring strength of familial bonds.
