Funeral services for Barbara Jean Kendrix, of Hugo, Okla., were held on Aug. 22, 2025 at Miller & Miller Funeral Home in Hugo. Barbara passed away Aug. 18, 2025, at the age of 77.

Barbara Jean (Gallant) Kendrix was born on Jan. 8, 1948 in Littlefield, Texas, to Roy Lowell Gallant and Mary Emily (Pilkington) Gallant. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Austin Ray Kendrix; brothers: Raymond O’Dell Gallant and David Ray Gallant; sisters: Joyce LaVern Anderson, Mary Fay Ianniccino, Carolyn Gallant and Betty Sue Morris.

Barbara had lived in Choctaw County most of her life and worked as a waitress. She married her beloved husband, Austin Ray Kendrix on Sept. 22, 1969 at the Hugo Church of Christ. Barbara found joy in the music of her favorite artists, Bill Grant and Elvis Presley, and loved listening to music on her tapes. She enjoyed going to thrift shops and garage sales and loved going to church and taking care of people. Most of all, Barbara loved her family and cherished her nieces and nephews. Those who knew Barbara will remember her as faith-filled and friendly and her spirit will continue to inspire and guide those she left behind.

Barbara is survived by her brothers: Delbert Roy Gallant of Hugo, Billy Wayne Gallant of Soper, Okla., and Troy Gallant of Messer, Okla.; sister, Helen “Punk” Lorene of Altus, Okla.; numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, friends and loved ones.

Justin Byerly officiated the service, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
