Barney DeWayne Nicholas
Graveside servicees for Barney DeWayne Nicholas, of Spencerville, Okla., were held July 21, 2025 at Spencerville Cemetery. Barney passed away July 17, 2025, at the age of 78.
Barney De Wayne Nicholas was born on Feb.
6, 1947 in Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of John Nicholas and Gwen (McCurdy) Nicholas. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Eldon Nicholas and Wesley Nicholas.
Barney lived most of his life in the Spencerville area. He joined the United States Army in 1965 and proudly served his county.
His military career took him through three tours in Vietnam and was later stationed at Fort Knox where he was activated for Desert Storm. Barney earned several commendations during his time in the Army, and he retired after 20 years of dedicated service. He later worked at Campbell Soup in Paris, Texas, where his positions varied from distribution to forklift operator then retired after 23 years.
Most of his life, Barney enjoyed ranching and woodworking.
Barney married his beloved wife, Linda (Mashburn) Nicholas, on Aug. 15 1969 in Hugo, Okla. Together, they built a wonderful life full of family and memories. Above all, Barney cherished his role as a devoted husband, father and granddad. He loved his family deeply and his memory will live on forever in the hearts of his loved ones.
Barney is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Nicholas; sons: Joseph Nicholas and wife of Spencerville, and Troy Nicholas and wife of Mustang, Okla.; brother, Denver Nicholas and wife of Ben Wheeler, Texas; sisters: Evelyn Syposs and husband of Tucson, Ariz., and Carol “Diane” Brown and husband of Spencerville; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
Joey Brindley officiated the service, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
