Charles Dean “Charlie” Pierce
Charles Dean “Charlie” Pierce, 100, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025 in Lafayette, after a brief illness. Charlie was born Jan. 20, 1925 in Hugo, Okla., and turned 100 years old, six days before his death. He was a long-time resident of Lafayette. Charlie was a petroleum geologist and was still “sliding logs” up until two weeks before his death. Charlie worked in the entertainment business when the oil industry was in a slump in the late ‘80s.
Charlie graduated from Hugo High School in Hugo. He was a veteran of WWII where he served in the Navy. He returned from the service to earn a degree in geology at Oklahoma University. Charlie was also a collegiate wrestler while at OU. He was a pilot and loved flying.
Charlie is survived by two nephews: Ronnie Joe Pierce and Jeffery Lynn Pierce; a grandson, Marshall Micheli; a great-niece, Gail Rountree Blaylock; a great-nephew who was very close to Charlie, Robert Marcus Rountree, and a long-time friend, Danielle Brewer.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bobbie Jean Richey Fortenberry Pierce; an adopted child, Thomas Brady Pierce Law; his parents, Myrtle Virginia Penney Pierce and Joe Pierce, and his siblings: Lucille Pierce Bonnar, Joe G. Pierce, John Carter Pierce, Henry Ray Pierce and Francis L. Pierce Rountree.
A Celebration of Memories was held Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025 at Petroleum Club of Lafayette. His ashes will be buried next to Bobbie Jean in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Gardner, La., at a later date.
