Dorothy Louise Hughes
Funeral services for Dorothy Louise Hughes, of Ringold, Okla., were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024 at Sobol Baptist Church in Sobol, Okla. Dorothy passed away Aug. 27, 2024, at the age of 89. Dorothy Louise (Miller) Hughes was born on Sept. 30, 1934 in Newkirk, Okla., the daughter of Frank Lewis Miller and Margaret Louise (Matney) Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gordon Miller; sister, Wanda Ensey and stepson, John Hughes.
Dorothy grew up in the Ringold-Sobol area, moving around the states of Oklahoma and Texas for several years before returning to her roots in 1974. She received her GED and went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in business. Dorothy worked several years for Kellogg and later for Wright City as the city clerk where she retired.
Dorothy was a woman of many talents. She was a master seamstress and tailor. Dorothy often made her families’ clothing and would do tailoring for members of the community. She was also a talented artist and enjoyed painting. Dorothy also enjoyed playing the piano at Sobol Baptist Church where she had been a member for the last 20 years. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She was always in good spirits throughout her life; even when she faced her own struggles, she had a smile on her face. That good spirit and smile will live on in all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her loving family; sons: Mark Terry and John Terry; daughters: Teressa Terry-Hodges and Lisa Campbell; stepson, Clifford Hughes; stepdaughter, Pansy Parsons; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; brothers: Elmer Miller, Ronnie Miller and Johnny Miller; sisters: Angela Gross, Debbie Davis and Frankie Belk; along with a host of other family, friends and loved ones.
Interment followed the service at Rufe Cemetery with Bro. Steven Buchanan officiating, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
