Ira “Butch” Leo Speer, known lovingly to family and friends as Butch, passed away on June 19, 2026 in Jones, Okla., at the age of 84.

Butch was born on Feb. 7, 1942 in Boswell, Okla., to Mason and Christine (Ainsworth) Speer. He lived a life rooted in the values of faith, kindness and friendship, and he carried those qualities with him wherever he went. He was a Christian man who loved the Lord, and he was never shy about sharing his faith with others. Those who knew him will remember him as a faith-filled, kind, and friendly man whose presence brought comfort and encouragement to many.

Butch married Susan Speer on May 21, 1994 in Boswell, and together they shared many years of life, love, and companionship. He lived off and on in Boswell throughout his life, and the community remained close to his heart. After his retirement from Oklahoma City, he made his home in Boswell from 2002 until 2023, where he devoted countless hours to serving others. He worked as a school bus driver, and a custodian for Boswell Public Schools. He was dependable, hardworking, and always willing to lend a hand wherever he was needed.

Butch was deeply involved in his church, his school, and the Boswell community. He spent numerous hours volunteering and helping in any way he could, often without seeking recognition.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Boswell, where he found fellowship and continued to witness to others about his love for Jesus. His life was marked by service, and he was always ready and willing to help anyone in need. His generosity of spirit and steady presence made a lasting difference in the lives of many. In his free time, Butch enjoyed gardening and landscaping, fishing, and playing card games. He found joy in simple pleasures and in the company of those he loved. Whether he was tending to the yard, spending time outdoors, or enjoying a friendly game, he brought warmth and good humor to the moment. He especially valued time with family and friends, and he treasured the lifelong friendships he built over the years, including his dear friend Ronnie Ensey.

Butch is survived by his sister, Betty (Speer) Davidson; his step-brothers: Gary Jenkins and Pete Jenkins and wife; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mason and Christine (Ainsworth) Speer; his step-mother, Fern Speer; his brothers: infant brother Rex Speer and Larry Speer; his sister, Nettie (Speer) Davidson; his step-brother, Bill Jenkins; and his wife, Susan Speer.
