Funeral services for James Browning were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Hugo with Pastor Byron Smith officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. James passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023, in Hugo, Okla., at the age of 92.

James Browning was born on Oct. 6, 1930, in Hugo, Okla., to Robert and Viola (McLemore) Browning, and had lived in this community for the last 28 years.

James served in the U.S. Navy and was a Korean War Veteran. He was passionate about volunteering and serving people. He was a member of Choctaw Memorial Auxiliary and the VFW. He was a deacon at the First Baptist Church. James also managed the Hugo Heritage Railroad and was a Mason. He donated and supported the Hugo PRCA Rodeo and always enjoyed the annual rodeo and homecoming.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean Marie; one son, Phillip Browning; brothers: Carl Browning, Jack Browning and Charles Browning; sisters: Bonnie Faye Higginbotham and Geraldine Browning.

James is survived by a grandson; two nephews; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were trusted to Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home, Hugo.
