Memorial services for James Harden Surratt, III, of Valliant, Okla., were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024 at Miller & Miller Funeral Home. James passed away Aug. 7, 2024, at the age of 78.
James “Jimmy” Harden Surratt, III was born on Jan. 18, 1946 in Little Rock, Ark., the son of James Harden Surratt, Jr. and Emma Iola (Fuchs) Surratt. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sandra Kay Collins.
Jimmy was born in Little Rock and raised in Mc-Crory, Ark. He married his beloved wife, Lola Kay Murphy on Nov. 12, 1966 in Gurdon, Ark. In 1971, they moved to Valliant, where Jimmy worked for the Weyerhaeuser Paper Mill until his retirement. He was a longstanding member of the Terrapin Creek Hunting Club and the Rock Creek Golf Club. His hobbies included making furniture, skating and golfing, with hunting and fishing being at the top of the list. Jimmy spent as much time as possible with his family and his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Surratt of the home; sons: Christopher Scott Surratt and wife of Valliant, and Steven Foster Surratt and wife of Idabel, Okla.; daughter, Wendy Jane Damm of Broken Bow, Okla.; six grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Anderson of Bald Knob, Ark.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, along with a host of other family, friends and loved ones.
Services were under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
