Janie Arnita (House) Young, 76, of McAlester, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023 in her home surrounded by her family.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Bishop Chapel of Memories, officiated by the Rev. Chip Lott. Burial at Holdenville Cemetery followed.

Janie was born Feb. 1, 1947 to Ira C. and Edna (Venis) House in Holdenville, Okla. She attended Holdenville High School. Janie married the love of her life, Marion “Sonny” Young on April 23, 1970 in McAlester. She was an animal lover, especially to her dog Sallie. She was a diehard Coca-Cola drinker and enjoyed watching her two favorite television shows, M.A.S.H. and Jeopardy. Janie loved to listen to any type of music, but the songs of Elvis were her favorite. To say that she loved to shop was an understatement! She was ready to go shopping anytime, and anywhere. But her favorite way to shop was sitting at home and calling HSN or QVC. Janie was kind and gentle and will be missed beyond measure by those who knew and loved her.

Janie is survived by her husband, Marion “Sonny” Young of the home; children: Jane White Rhodes of Hugo, Donna White Shufeldt of McAlester, Cheryl Byars and husband of Grant, and Robert Young of Virginia; 13 grandchildren; brothers: Phillip House and wife of Tulsa, and James Mouser and wife of Ada; sister, Beverly Holmes; 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews and long-term friends. She is preceded in death by her parents: Ira and Edna House; and brothers: Hoyle House and Cecil Mouser.

Services were under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.
