J.L. Ellis, age 66, departed from this life Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Paris Regional Medical Center in Paris, Texas.

J.L. Ellis was born into this life on Aug. 25, 1955 in Talihina, Okla., the son of Jack O. Ellis and Reatha L. Freeman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Reatha; brother, Jimmie L. Ellis and a grandmother.

J.L. was a graduate of Hugo High School and Paris Junior College. J.L. had been a member of the Hugo community most of his life. He worked as a licensed HVAC technician for many years in Paris, Texas, and later as a maintenance technician for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Hugo.

J.L. was a man of faith, he attended the Mt. Sanai Church of God in Christ and spent many hours helping renovate the church with Pastor Cooper. He enjoyed reading his Bible, working with his hands and hunting in his spare time. J.L. was a hard-working man, he could do just about anything he set his mind to. He recently lost his home that he had been renovating to a fire. J.L. fought some difficult battles here on earth; some brought about by his own choices. J.L. embraced life and its challenges with the spirt of gratitude and service to the Lord; always eager to share his faith. J.L. counted every day as a blessing and although he had little, he was always quick to share with a friend or stranger. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

J.L. is survived by his son, Jacob Ellis of Gardenia, Calif.; daughter, Sara Blackburn and her husband of Durant, Okla.; four grandchildren; sisters: Rebecca Hallum, Zinna Bowthorpe, Rhonda Goodman and husband of Hugo; a niece, along with a host of other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Memorial services will be held at the Goodland Cemetery Pavilion at 1216 Old Spring Rd, Hugo, OK 74743 at 1 p.m. on May 19, 2022.

Arrangements are under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
