Joe. B Hewitt was born Aug. 13, 1931 in Grants, N.M. He went to be with his Heavenly Father, Jan. 13, 2021 as a result of COVID-19 in Paris Regional Medical Center.

We will celebrate Joe’s life at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 2021 at Clayton Ave. Baptist Church in Hugo, Okla., where Joe and Jeanette were active members. The service will be led by Dr. Steve Deaton and will also be live streamed by Prater-Lampton-Mills Funeral Home for those unable to attend.

He leaves behind his wife, Jeanette Bond Lambert Hewitt, retired teacher and resident of Hugo, since 1970; her daughter, Deborah Wall and husband, Ronald Wall of Paris, Texas, and their children: Olivia Zikalala and husband, Menzi Zikalala and son, Khetha Zikalala; Jordan and Giovana Jent of Arlington, Texas; Jillian Ryan and daughter, Jocelyn Ryan of Paris, Texas; Brayden and Carter Wall of Paris, Texas.

Joe also leaves behind his precious brother, Gordon Hewitt and his wife, Velma Hewitt of Brandon, Fla., his children: Linda Hewitt Edwards; his son, Gary Hewitt and wife, Julie Hewitt, Debbi Hewitt Davies and husband, Drew Davies; his grandchildren: Deborah Ruth Viers and husband, Paul Viers, Greg Edwards, Clint Edwards, Joanna Hewitt (wife of his late grandson, Josh Hewitt), Andrea Davies Benavides and her husband, Richard Benavides III; his great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Emily Hewitt, Paul “Bubba” Viers Jr., Katie Curtis and Courtney Houghtling.

Throughout his life Joe wore many hats: roughneck in oilfields, newspaper reporter and editor, court mediator, author, artist, counselor and a servant of our Lord. He started two churches — Trinity Baptist in Richardson, Texas, and Princeton Park Baptist in Rowlett, Texas.

Joe B. Hewitt is preceeded in death by his wife of more than 50 years and the mother of his children, Marilu Covert Hewitt; grandson, Joshua Lee Hewitt, and sisters: Naomi, Wanda and Rose Ellen.

Family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021 at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.
