Joyce Ann Butler
Joyce Ann Butler, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on Jan. 14, 2025 in Durant, Okla., at the age of 87. Born on March 31, 1937 in Antlers, Okla., Joyce lived a life characterized by her passion, love and kindness to all who knew her.
Joyce spent her formative years in Antlers, where she attended Antlers High School. After graduating, she settled in Hugo, began her family, and began a career that would see her become a familiar and well-respected face at Ford’s Menswear. Joyce’s impeccable style and her ability to connect with customers and friends alike made her a beloved figure in the workplace and beyond.
Outside of work, Joyce found joy in many different activities. She enjoyed growing a variety of flowers and also found great pleasure in playing cards and board games with her friends and family. Joyce was a passionate Oklahoma Sooners fan and looked forward to watching the football and softball teams as often as possible. She spent hours on end at the local ball fields watching her grandchildren play baseball. Joyce loved the Christman holiday season, which began promptly on the day after Thanksgiving, decorating the home and making candy and treats for the entire family.
Joyce is survived by her sons: Kenneth M. Butler Jr. of Hugo, and Kirk M. Butler of Sherman, Texas; her daughter, Michelle Rogers of Hugo; her grandchildren: Kenny Mack Butler, Kyle Butler, Ty Butler, Daniel Wisener, Ariel Wisener, Justin Butler and Rowdy Butler; her brother, Byron Baker of Stillwater, Okla.; and nine great-grandchildren who brought her immeasurable joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ann Baker and Ray E. Baker; her sister, Mary Manning; and her grandson, Stoney Butler.
Joyce’s life was a beautiful reflection of the things she loved and the people she held dear. As we say goodbye to Joyce, we celebrate the enduring impact she made on our lives, and we take comfort in knowing that her spirit will forever be a part of us.
A memorial service will be held for Joyce on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home Chapel at 216 E. Jackson St. in Hugo.
