Funeral services for Joyce Lavada Mae (Wyrick) Thomas Barker, of Springtown, Texas, were held Dec. 18, 2025 at Miller & Miller Funeral Home Chapel. Joyce passed away Dec. 15, 2025, at the age of 97.

Joyce Lavada Mae (Wyrick) Thomas Barker was born on Oct. 19, 1928 in Soper, Okla., the daughter of John Riley Wyrick and Daisy Mae (McCleary) Wyrick. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Newton Thomas and Edgar Barker; brothers: Riley “J.C.” Wyrick, Harold Wyrick, Ervin Wyrick and Jim Wyrick; sisters: Faye West and Linda Howle.

Joyce was a lifelong resident of Choctaw County and had recently moved to be closer to her last surviving sister in Springtown, Texas. She was a supervisor for Wells Lamont Glove Factory in Hugo for many years. She married her first husband, Newton Hubert Thomas on June 22, 1946 in Paris, Texas, and they made their home in Crowder Springs. Joyce always took care of her younger siblings, and she loved her family beyond measure. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Boswell for many years and taught Sunday School and helped with anything that needed to be done in the church. Joyce loved the Lord and shared the Gospel whenever she was able. After her beloved husband Newton passed she continued to care for her family until she met her second husband, Edgar “Buster” Barker, whom she married in 1999. Joyce also enjoyed quilting and sewing in her spare time. She lived a long and prosperous happy life and was truly blessed with a strong family bond. Joyce is survived by her brothers: Jerry Wyrick of Broken Bow, Okla., and Larry Wyrick of Hugo, Okla., and sister, Dola Harris and husband of Springtown, Texas, along with a host of nieces and nephews and numerous family, friends and loved ones.

Interment followed the service at Restland Cemetery in Boswell, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
