Funeral services for Lois Lorene Chappell, of Grant, Okla., were held at 2 p.m. Oct. 21, 2023 at Shoals Baptist Church. Lois passed away Oct. 20, 2023, at the age of 89.

Lois Lorene Chappell was born on March 14, 1934 in Spencerville, Okla., the daughter of Milton and Nancy Dalton Morehead. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Curtis Emery Chappell; brothers: Robert Morehead and Leonard Morehead and sisters: Wanda Faye Morehead, Juanita Greer, Rachel Young and Marilyn Flowers.

Lois lived in the Choctaw County area all her life and was a member of the Shoals Baptist Church. She married the love of her life, Curtis Chappell, on Aug. 11, 1950 in DeQueen, Ark. She was employed at Wells Lamont Glove Factory for 16 years and then became a mail carrier in 1975, retiring in 1999. Lois had a number of interests, including her flower gardens, working in her yard, quilting and other hobbies. But, her most important job was her family, which always came first. She adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lois is survived by her daughters: Ellen Flanagan and husband, Billy of Grant and Bertha Hess and husband, Gary of Garvin, Okla.; son, Ronnie Chappell and wife, Staci of Bagwell, Texas; grandchildren: Amy Payne, Lee Hess, Trudy Daves, Casey Flanagan, Travis Chappell, Grant Chappell and Caroline Henderson; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, along with a host of other family, friends and loved ones.

Interment followed the service at Spencerville Cemetery with Travis Chappell officiating, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
