Martha Ellen Moody
Martha Ellen Moody, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on Jan. 27, 1931 in Cooper, Texas, Martha was the cherished daughter of William Mack Johnson and Geniva Naomi (Queen) Johnson. Her life was a tapestry of close-knit ties, enduring friendships and a commitment to service that touched the hearts of many.
Martha’s early years in Delta County were filled with the warmth of a loving family. She blossomed into a thoughtful and caring individual, traits that would define her throughout her life. After graduating from high school, Martha’s path crossed with Bob Allen Moody, and the two were united in marriage on April 19, 1952, in their hometown of Cooper. Their union was a testament to devotion, spanning 36 years until Bob’s passing on May 1, 1988. The couple had enjoyed a brief but cherished retirement together at their lake house in Oklahoma, creating memories that Martha would hold dear for the rest of her days.
Professionally, Martha dedicated 40 years to the banking industry, where she excelled as an administrative assistant. Her work ethic and attention to detail were unmatched, earning her the respect and admiration of her colleagues. Even after her retirement, Martha’s desire to contribute to her community remained strong. She was a devout member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lewisville, Texas, where she served as a Deaconess, embodying the church’s values of compassion and service.
Martha’s commitment to community extended to her involvement with the Order of the Eastern Star, Hillsboro Chapter #769. As a 50-year member and a Past Worthy Matron, she exemplified the organization’s ideals of charity, truth, and loving-kindness. Additionally, her engagement with the PEO Lewisville Chapter further showcased her dedication to supporting women’s education and philanthropic endeavors. Music was one of Martha’s lifelong passions. From the tender age of 7, she played the piano, organ and keyboard with grace and skill that brought joy to all who listened. Her talent came naturally as she was self-taught to play the piano by ear. If you could hum a tune for a song, she could play it on the piano. Her love for music was matched only by her love for travel, cooking, and playing card games. Martha’s adventurous spirit led her to explore new places and many cruises, always with a sense of wonder and excitement. Her presence at the monthly Bunco Club meetings was a highlight for all members, as she brought laughter and camaraderie to the table.
Those who knew Martha will remember her as a loving, adventurous, and thoughtful soul. Her ability to connect with people, her generous spirit, and her unwavering kindness left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. Martha’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and the gentle reminder to cherish every moment.
