Body

Mattie Belle Leslie, a devoted family woman, passed from this life into eternity with the Lord on Aug. 14, 2020 in Hugo, Okla., at the age of 85.

Funeral Services for Mattie Belle were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Hugo. Her pastor, Bro. Kyle Cummings, officiated with burial following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo.

Mattie Belle Wilkins was born April 30, 1935 in Hugo, the daughter of Jack and Ollie (Byars) Wilkins. She lived most of her life in Hugo but spent a portion of her retirement years at Pine Creek Lake near Ringold, Okla. Mattie was the faithful companion and business partner of Donald Eugene Leslie. They married in Hot Springs, Ark., on Nov. 15, 1952 and enjoyed 67 years of life together. As a team, they established Leslie Cattle Company, a large operation that purchased and delivered cattle to surrounding states using their fleet of trucks. Mattie also worked in the office at Hugo, Idabel and McAlester Stockyards and kept the operation flowing administratively for decades. In the home, she made an impressive egg custard pie and was skilled at crocheting.

Mattie loved her family, neighbors and animals, especially her four rescue cats. She and Don enjoyed growing vegetables, relaxing by the lake, fishing for crappie and listening to bluegrass music. They also treasured time spent with their church families of Rufe Baptist and Oak Grove Baptist.

Mattie is survived by her beloved husband: Don, of the home; son, Donald Jack Leslie and wife, Lisa of Hugo; four granddaughters: Lendy Leslie, Dusti Collum of Hugo, Randa Collum of McKinney, Texas, and fiance, James Rucker, Shae McDowra of Hugo and fiance, Colby Raper; her two great-grandbabies: Bari Rucker and Brinn Rucker; her three loving caretakers.

Mattie is preceded in death by her parents and her two daughters: Donna Carol Leslie and Sandra McDowra.

Services were under the direction of Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.
