Funeral Service for Reba Jo Amend, 75 of Poteau, Okla., were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Cross Community Church in Poteau, with Jim Cook, Cory Thompson and Jason Waymire officiating. Burial followed at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

Reba Jo Payne Amend was born Jan. 29, 1948 in Hugo, Okla., to Euell and Callie Opal Payne and passed away peacefully on July 2, 2023 in Fort Smith, Ark. Reba graduated Hugo High School in 1966 and married her high school sweetheart, Terry Amend, on Aug. 17, 1968.

Terry and Reba resided in Norman, Okla., for seven years before moving to Poteau. Reba became a “fanatic” Sooner fan. Watching OU sports with Reba was an experience, her family believes she may be banned from watching these events in Heaven.

Reba had a servant’s heart. She made her family and friends a priority and was there for them any time they needed her. Reba enjoyed participating in the Red Hat Society and the LeFlore County Democratic Party in which she received the 2016 Democrat of the Year Award. She enjoyed decorating, traveling, reading about the Royal Family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Reba was preceded in death by her mother and father and siblings: Jack and Gwen.

Reba is survived by her husband of 54 years, Terry Amend; three daughters: Vivian Amend (husband, Jim May) of Rome, Italy, Heather (husband, Adrian) Sconyers of Poteau, and Ashley Brashers of Broken Arrow, Okla.; five grandchildren: Kyle (wife, Emily) Sconyers, Aidan, Owen and Emma Sconyers, Aubrey Brashers and one great-grandchild, Emmett Sconyers; brothers: Stan (wife, Sara) Payne, Jerald (wife, Bettye) Payne, Terry Paul (wife, Susan) Payne, very special friends: Jodi Hoffman and Cheryl McKendrick, honorary daughter, Kara Hammons, various nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Reba loved the Lord, she was strong and resilient and was an encouragement to many.

Pallbearers were: Adrian Sconyers, Aidan Sconyers, Kyle Sconyers, Jim May, Russell Barber and Billy Ray Hoffman.

Honorary Pallbearers were: Owen Sconyers, Stan Payne, Jerald Payne, Terry Paul Payne and W.D. Hoffman.
