Robert Julian “Bob” Thacker Sr.
Robert Julian “Bob” Thacker, Sr., 85, was born on Sept. 11, 1940 in Richmond, Va., the son of Julian and Helen Thacker. He passed away July 13, 2026 in Oklahoma City, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Dana Jo.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1959 until 1963, an experience that reflected the patriotism and work ethic that would define the rest of his life. Although Oklahoma became his home, Bob’s heart never left the salty waters of Virginia and the Chesapeake Bay. When he moved to Oklahoma he brought with him his love of the outdoors, hunting, fishing and boating.
Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sammye Jo (Peters); daughters, Cindy Ruminer, of Durant, Okla., Kay Jeanes of Arcadia, Okla.; sons, Thomas Thacker of Hugo, Robert Thacker, Jr. of Quinton, Va.; brothers: James Thacker of Va., and Pete Thacker of Fla., and sister, Julie Grandstaff of Va., along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of family, friends and loved ones.
Honoring Bob’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Instead, the family will gather privately to return him to the Chesapeake Bay, where the salty waters he loved throughout his life will gently carry him home.
