Roger Dale Landis, known affectionately as Roger to his friends and family, passed away peacefully after a hard-fought battle for his health during the last several months on March 6, 2026, in Sherman, Texas. Born on Aug. 14, 1946 in Van Buren, Mo., Roger’s life was a testament to his selfless, friendly and generous spirit.

Roger’s early years in Missouri laid the foundation for a life of service and dedication. After completing his education, he honorably served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, a period that shaped much of his character and instilled in him a profound sense of duty. Following his military service, Roger embarked on a long and fulfilling career with Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, where he worked for 43 years. His meticulous work in several roles of craftsmanship and finally as a die-maker for card production earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

Family was the cornerstone of Roger’s life. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nina Landis, who shared in all of life’s adventures from their home on Hugo Lake. Together, they raised their daughter, Kim Peterson, who, along with her husband Brent, gave Roger the joy of being a grandfather to Tristan and Colby Peterson. Roger’s love for his grandsons was evident in the pride he took in watching them play baseball, a pastime that brought the family closer together.

Roger’s brothers: Terry Landis with his wife, Tammy, and Noble Landis with his wife, Mary, will remember him for his unwavering support and the strong bonds they shared. His extended family of several nieces and nephews will also cherish memories of their kind uncle. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and June (Sanders) Landis; his brother, Ted Landis, and his sisters: Bonnie Souders, Vonda Landis and Sondra Dirks, who all left an indelible mark on his heart.

Beyond his family and work, Roger had a passion for the outdoors. He was happiest when he was hunting, fishing, or simply working in his garden. Retirement brought him closer to nature, where he crafted a beautiful garden, enjoyed the company of hummingbirds, and relished the tranquility of Hugo Lake. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his love for his community, where he was known for his willingness to lend a hand or share the bounty of his garden.

Roger’s legacy is one of love, hard work and community. His selfless nature made him a pillar in the lives of those who knew him. His friendly demeanor and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Roger Dale Landis will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will continue to warm the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come.
