Sylvia “Ramona” Stillwell was born Sept. 30, 1930 in Frogville, Okla., to Jesse and Ora (Smith) Nelms. She departed from this life on Aug. 28, 2025 in Paris, Texas, at the age of 94. Ramona spent her childhood on her parents’ farm in the “bottoms” of Frogville. She attended Golden Bluff, a one room schoolhouse, until the eighth grade. She attended Grant schools for two years before she and her family moved to Soper, Okla., where she graduated high school in 1948 and became a life-long resident.

Ramona worked in the community of Hugo, Okla., for many years at the Choctaw County Assessor’s Office and as a bank teller at Citizen State Bank. During her time working, she was a friendly face to many. Ramona was an active member of the Soper Church of Christ most of her life, a member of the Soper Literary Study Club for years, sang in various choir groups in the community, and was friend to anyone she met.

Ramona loved attending church, singing, laughing, spending time with friends, telling stories, and visiting over a cup of coffee –– or the weekly special at the Soper Cafe. Most of all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her sons and their families were the light of her life. Her legacy will live on in the stories of yesteryear she loved to tell her family. Ramona is proceeded in death by her parents; her siblings: Virginia Ruth Nelms, Jesse Gooding, Verna Kelly and Wendell Nelms; her husband, Wilburn Stillwell; and great-granddaughter, Bailey Hammock. She is survived by her sons: Ron Hammock and wife, Peggy, Mark Hammock and wife, Gina; grandchildren: Melonie and Byron Hau, Shawn Hammock, Cayden and Emily Hammock, Kacy and Jakus Hull, Haly and John McQuaig, Justin and Laura Evans, Dusty Hicks, Jamie and Tammy Evans, as well as 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of beloved family and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025 in the 4th & Jackson Church of Christ Church, with Joe Maple and Tim Harless officiating, and burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
