Thomas Hiram Herndon III
Funeral services for Thomas Hiram Herndon, III, of Hugo, Okla., will be held at 10 a.m. July 9, 2026 at Miller & Miller Funeral Home Chapel. Thomas passed away July 5, 2026, at the age of 87.
Thomas Hiram Herndon, III was born on Nov. 17, 1938 in Hugo, Okla., the son of Thomas H. Herndon, Jr. and Edith Frost Herndon. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha Herndon and stepmother, Vada Herndon.
Thomas, known by all as Junior, lived most of his life in the Hugo area. He married his beloved wife, Martha Butler, on Sept. 11, 1965 in Dallas, Texas. Junior was a proud Veteran of the United States Army and served as the VFW Post Commander and most recently as the Quarter Master. He also ran the local VFW Bingo for more than 30 years. Junior served on the Hugo Booster Club and coached as a Babe Ruth youth baseball coach for many years. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s games and activities and was always willing to lend a hand wherever he was needed, including serving as the President of the Hugo Bass Club for many years.
Junior especially enjoyed visiting with neighbors and family. He was a father figure to many. Junior has left a lasting memory for his family to cherish for years to come and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Junior is survived by his son, Thomas H. Herndon IV of Hugo; daughter, Lori Michelle Greer and husband, Brad of Hugo; grandchildren: Taylor Brown and husband, Logan, Savannah Emert and husband, Devin, Bradford Greer and Heather Villar; great-grandchildren: Rainie Emert, Cadence Villar and Melody Villar; brothers: Wayne Herndon of Hugo, Thomas Edwin Herndon of Wesly Chappel, Fla., and Jimmie Herndon of Georgetown, Texas; sister, Adelia Hammock of Hugo, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous other family, friends and loved ones.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at Miller & Miller Funeral Home in Hugo.
Interment will follow the service at Shoat Springs Cemetery with Bro. Shawn Robertson officiating, assisted by Bradford Greer and Dr. Mike Irvin, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
