Graveside services for Vernon Lee West, of Ben Wheeler, Texas, were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 22, 2020 at Restland Cemetery in Boswell, Okla. Vernon passed away Aug. 19, 2020, at the age of 84.

Vernon Lee West was born on April 12, 1936 in Blaine, Ky., the eldest son of Barton West and Audie (Spencer) West. Vernon, along with two brothers and three sisters, was raised in Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Dale West.

Vernon was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and while serving his country, he married Janice Hughes in 1957. They had three sons: Daryl, Dale and Dana. After his service in the Air Force, he became a tour bus driver for Continental Trailways and drove tours throughout the United States. He loved the outdoors and in his younger years spent many hours hunting, fishing and riding the countryside on his motorcycle. After his retirement from Continental he ran his own construction company for more than 25 years. In his later years he enjoyed spending time at the casino.

Vernon always saw the positive things in life. You never heard anything negative when you visited with him. He loved his family and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Vernon is survived by his sons: Daryl West and wife of Montgomery, Texas, and Dana West and wife of Durant, Okla.; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, along with numerous other friends, family and loved ones.

Bro. Chad Austin officiated the service, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
