Vertrice Mae Smith was born March 8, 1929 to Royal and Edith (Cremean) Waller in Lima, Ohio. She passed away Aug. 12, 2023 in Wellston, Okla., at the age of 94.

Vertrice grew up in Ohio. She married Dillard Smith in New Mexico in 1946. They moved to Oklahoma and raised seven children together. Vertrice lived in Oklahoma the rest of her life. She was a long-time member of the Wellston Assembly of God Church. She was a devoted Christian who loved her Lord more than anything on earth. Everyone loved Momma, a.k.a. Nanny.

Vertrice was preceded in death by her parents, Royal and Edith Waller; husband of 46 years, Dillard Smith; sons: Gary Smith, Roger Smith, Clint Smith; and her daughter, Odessa Hunter. Survivors include her son, Paul Smith of Oklahoma City; daughters: Peggy Yaw of Wellston, Retha Cook of Colorado; 21 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 19 great-greatgrandchildren;

Martin of Ohio.

A funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023 at the Wellston Assembly of God Church. Interment followed at 4 p.m. in the Fort Towson Cemetery in Fort Towson Okla. Arrangements were under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
