William Dewey Griffin
Graveside services for William Dewey Griffin, of Hugo, Okla., were held at 10 a.m. Dec. 9, 2020 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo. William passed away Dec. 5, 2020, at the age of 87.
William Dewey Griffin was born on April 20, 1933 in Messer, Okla., the son of Harvey William and Lela (Westbrook) Griffin. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy; brothers: Dorman Griffin, Jim Griffin and an infant brother; sister, Bernice Sims and a special friend.
William was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War Conflict where he received the Nation Defense Service Medal. He married Nancy Pat Sims on May 5, 1956 in Arlington, Texas. They were married for more than 62 years before she preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 2018.
William grew up in Messer and moved to Kansas City, Mo., where he was employed by the Ford Motor Company. William worked on the assembly line and was a union steward. He retired after 30 years and moved back to Messer in 1982. He was owner and operator of Griffin Sand and Gravel and ran a small cattle operation in Messer. William was an active member of the Messer Volunteer Fire Department as well as a member of Heritage Methodist Church in Hugo. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.
William is survived by his daughters: Sharon Robb and husband of Liberty, Mo., and Melissa Malone and husband of Boswell, Okla.; son, Michael Griffin of Messer; brother, Donald Ray Griffin of Mansfield, Texas; sister, Helen Angelly of Marietta, Okla.; a special caregiver, along with a host of other family, friends and loved ones.
Joey Brindley officiated the service, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
