A nation already staggering from the COVID-19 pandemic also faces a shortage of healthcare providers in all areas, from family physicians, to dentists, to nurses and beyond.

October is SIDS Awareness Month

October is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) awareness month. The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) wants all parents of new babies to know that there are steps they can take to protect their children from the risk posed by SIDS.

Hugo Middle School Library held a Literacy Night on Sept. 15, 2020. There were more than 30 parents, students and faculty who attended, and six stations from which attendees could choose to participate. Drinks and free bookmarks were available to all.

Boswell Mayor arrested on felony warrant

BOSWELL — Boswell Mayor Buck Eastwood was arrested Friday and booked into the Choctaw County jail on a felony warrant for “malicious injury to property… over $1,000.” Choctaw County Deputy Sheriff James Dill (No. 1214) wrote in affidavit of probable cause report that he received a phone call from George Holder on Aug.

Ambulance Authority: Finances stable but unique flu season heightens concerns

Choctaw County Ambulance Authority Executive Director Randy Springfield told board members during their regular meeting Oct. 8, the EMS district’s current financial status is “stable.” While the authority’s finances were in the positive territory prior to COVID-19, the pandemic’s arrival delivered many negatives –– additional expenses, fewer calls for patient transports and a delay in the sales tax election that in turn meant a loss in revenue.
